Radio...you should have seen us...

So, new album's out and not a week later we're at the local radio station being interviewed by Henk Scholten for his daily music show. I was expecting a couple of chairs and some microphones for talking and that would be it. No such thing... A full stage rig had been put up with all the microphones we could eat. Small problem: we would have to move back and forth between the interviewing table to the mikes about 10 feet away during the show. First it was Evertjan and me that were going to do all the chin wagging but in the end we decided it was more fun to have all of us at the table. It started very calmly and everyone was being jolly good, answering Henks questions meekly and being extremely neat and tidy. Which we are really... And then, there was the running... When Henk announced we were to play live on air, Peter R., Peter Z. and me snuck out from under the interview mikes and tiptoed to the set-up, leaving Evertjan to finish up chatting. He then had to chase his pipes and get tied up so we could start the tunes. That went very well, and relievedly we strode back to Henk to have another bit of conversation. We played a Bothy band tribute, Do you love an apple, from Triona's singing which we had only arranged the day before. But we were all determined to get it right, locked in and did the song proud. Evertjan was having the hardest time of all, alternating between the bouzouki, pipes and low-whistle which he masterfully balanced on his knees. No sweat...(wheeze)... actually we didn't sweat much at all because the air ' on air' was quite warm and dry, but the pipes held beautifully. Peter R. could be seen running back and forth on tippy-toes to his guitar, while Peter Z. would simply watch us with a somewhat sarcastic smile and calmly pick up his fiddle when it was time to play. I kept forgetting where I'd put my bodhran since the last run between mikes and bringing my flute to the interviewing table fo no apparent reason. Needless to say we all got a good bit of excersise in...but we made up for lost pounds having a few pints of Guinness at the pub which we subsequently sweated out again playing up a storm starting off the Wednesday session...you should have seen us...Henk saw us... See you next time Henk! Annemarie
