WHACK!! Synthesizer RIP
|
| In beautiful Veenwouden in Frylân at the Schierstins theater, a full house and us a bit edgy. For days and nights we had been stuck in a small room recording separately for our long-awaited CD. We suddenly remembered we were also a live band. What was that all about again....hmm? Never fear! We glided into the gig as if we had been on tour for months, Unsuspectingly we played up a storm. Thouroughly relieved an with renewed trust in ouselves we started the next tune: The wild geese. With great virtuosity Peter Rechsteiner accompanied the crisp and hypnotizing sounds coming from Maestro Peter Zijlstra's fiddle. Although...............? I turned around wearily to look at Peter R., for the sounds of the syntheziser had suddenly disappeared....aaargh! Eyes huge with fear, Peter R. jumped forward from behind the synth and grabbed the nearest guitar. The capo was still on! But with uncanny swiftness and a wild movement of his arm our brave multi-instrumentalist flung the capo into the audience and proceeded to play on as if nothing had happened....what a hero. later on in the dressing room Peter R. confessed that he had had to suppress a strong inclination to whack the synth...not so much out of frustration but more because of the fact that whacking it usually starts it up again. Fortunately Peter realised that a thunderous whacking would seriously compromise the tune's atmosphere. Green Irish hills...wild coasts...romance....WHACK!! |
